Small Patio Covers
Creating an outdoor space on small patios can be challenging. We received a phone cal from a homeowner in Oceanside California who has a home near the beach. These neighborhoods have homes built in the 1960’s and the majority have received updating which makes each home quite unique. Our homeowner, let’s call him Scott, had an unusual situation.
First his home has the kitchen and living space on the top floor and the bedrooms below. From the kitchen and living room you can walk out onto a small patio space that leads to a very large outdoor deck. The house has angles and steps from the small outdoor patio leading to the large outdoor deck.
The problem is that Scott is 6’2” and if he puts a patio cover that is a standard rectangular or square - he will bump his head walking back to the small patio from the deck. What should he do?
Here is Scott’s small patio area. You can see the steps and the deck on the right side of the photo.
He has been calling and emailing many patio companies and had found that the options were minimal. The prices was way too much for the small space or the standard sizes offered would create a strange square and he would hit his face.
Scott had a small budget of $10,000.00 and also needed to get the cover permitted by the city of Oceanside. We started out thinking that our Cabana kit could be the solution. We soon realized that a special angle cut would solve the problem of Scott hitting his face walking back from the deck.
Scott and his family bought a white RBreeze patio cover with open slats that are angled. We were able to get his project completed for under $13,000 total including installation, shipping and taxes. Watching Scott step off the step and into the patio area over and over again with a huge smile on his face made us feel like super hero’s.
Scott’s wife said, “it looks like it was made perfectly for this house”. It was!
